Vegan Leather + Synthetic Sandals For Men And Women

After a long day in hiking shoes or walking around you came home with sore, sweaty feet. You walk through the front door, kick off your shoes, and pull off your socks. Your feet have been trapped all day, so why not do them a favor and buy some sandals? Vegan sandals guarantee fresh feeling feet, while also not contributing to animal cruelty.

Sandals are easily the most versatile footwear. You can do everything from hiking to attending a formal event in them. This wide array of uses creates a wide array of styles as well. The great thing about sandals is most of the time, they are vegan; you don’t have to spend extensive amounts of time searching for vegan options.

Where do you begin your search for vegan sandals though? We are here to help with that. Here are 12 of the best sandals found on Amazon and other sites.

#1 Women’s Zx2 Classic Athletic Sandal from Chaco

Z

Made from: Rubber and Polyester

Growing up in Colorado, I heard all about this hiking sandal but never managed to get my hands on a pair. Chaco is definitely leading the game in hiking sandals.

Through Amazon, you can order a pair of these women’s hiking sandals in 23 different colors. The options have different strap and sole patterns as well. If you don’t see the exact colors that you are looking for, don’t worry! On Chaco’s website, you can create your very own pair of hiking sandals. In the customization tab, you have the option to customize every feature of the shoe, down to the logo color on the back.

With the comfort and wide range of options, it’s no wonder that the Women’s Zx2 is Amazon’s Choice, having over 1,000 reviews and 4.4 out of 5 stars. Chaco’s come with a variety of features, including grip, adjustable straps, and a polyurethane midsole. This means that the sole won’t break or compress from too much wear, and it is waterproof.

If you are thinking about going hiking and need a reliable pair of sandals, get yourself a pair of Chaco’s!

#2 Men’s Z2 Classic Athletic Sandal by Chaco

Z

Made from: Rubber and Polyester

This is the men’s counterpart to the women’s Zx2 Classic Athletic Sandal. Amazon currently offers this sandal in 4 colors, but like the women’s sandal, it is highly customizable through Chaco’s website.

Although these sandals only have around 50 reviews, they are very positive. One customer wrote, “I think Jesus made these”, while others praise how comfortable and durable the shoes are. Previous customers love these shoes, along with other styles of Chaco’s. If you buy them, you will definitely love them too.

Overall, Chaco’s are the way to go in terms of hiking sandals. If you are looking into a pair for hiking and are not sure which brand to start with, consider Chaco’s. They are a reputable brand with hundreds of options, guaranteed not to disappoint.

#3 Women’s Granola Fisherman Sandal from Blowfish Malibu

Z

Made from: Faux leather and Faux cork

Blowfish Malibu specializes in fashionable and affordable footwear, and the women’s Fisherman Sandals are no exception. While these shouldn’t be worn for hiking, you can still wear these shoes for several occasions. Blowfish Malibu says they are, “dressy enough for work, casual enough for the beach”.

This sandal comes in an unbelievable 43 color options through Amazon. Overall, they have the same design but some of the options have slight variations in detail. This is another sandal listed on Amazon with around 2,500 reviews, rated 4.4 out of 5 stars.

Because these sandals have thin straps, there is the possibility that they may irritate the back of your ankle, or any other points of contact. This usually happens within the first few times of wearing a new pair of shoes and will eventually go away though.

#4 Women’s Yoga Sling from Sanuk

Z

Made from: Fabric and yoga mat material

This is my personal favorite shoe on this list. Sanuk has a large collection of comfortable and simple shoes, and over the years I have owned several of them.

Walking on a yoga mat is incredibly comfortable, so Sanuk put that feeling into a shoe. There are 2 straps; the longer one goes around your ankle and your foot goes under the smaller strap.

These sandals are simple enough to wear for casual occasions, but you can also be active in them too! With my old pair of Yoga Sling sandals, I would go walking or run errands. I even took a day trip to Disney World in these shoes. The sandals aren’t waterproof, but they can get wet and won’t fall apart. If you are okay with a little bit of wet fabric, then definitely consider these casual sandals!

Sanuk also has a wide range of men’s sandals as well, so be sure to check those one’s out.

#5 Unisex Romano Sandal from Nomadic State of Mind

Z

Made from: Recycled polypro

Nomadic State of Mind is a brand that creates footwear and other accessories out of rope. All of their products are vegan and made from recycled material as well. The business is still pretty small, so if you want to support a growing business, shop with Nomadic State of Mind.

The Romano Sandals come in 2 colors through Amazon, camel and black. Pictured here their camel option, which appears very natural and in line with their ‘nomadic’ theme.

Because these sandals are 100% recycled polypro, there is no grip built on to the bottom of the shoes. If you buy yourself a pair of Romano sandals, be careful around slippery or wet surfaces. When the bottoms get wet, they can be very slippery. With repeated wear, the shoes will eventually become rougher on the bottoms, creating a better grip.

#6 Unisex Arizona Sandal from Birkenstock

Z

Made from: foam/synthetic material

Birkenstock is a brand known around the world. Growing up, my parents always had their Birkenstocks by the front door, and now in 2019, they are still just as popular. Many Birkenstocks are made with real leather, but they also have a large amount of vegan options as well.

These Birkenstocks come in 24 different colors, all following the same simple design. The sandals are made from a foam-like material, making them incredibly lightweight. In addition to being lightweight, these Birkenstocks are waterproof and odor-resistant as well.

Birkenstocks tend to be pricey because of the material, but the Arizona Sandal is a cheaper alternative while still maintaining the high quality of the brand. With around 1,500 Amazon reviews, these shoes are pulling in amazing reviews, from arch support and comfort, to durability and the great price.

#7 Women’s Tirra Sandal from Teva

Z

Made from: Textile and rubber

Teva is another brand with a wide range of vegan hiking sandals. Their shoes are like Chaco’s; however, they have less options for customization. Amazon currently offers these sandals in 17 different colors. More options can be found on Teva’s website, as well as a page dedicated to their different vegan options.

The Tirra Sandal is meant for hiking and any outdoor activity. These comfortable sandals will hold up during a hard day of hiking and won’t leave your feet feeling sweaty and sore like close-toed shoes would do.

These shoes have an overwhelming amount of reviews, coming in around 7,400. With all the reviews, the Tirra Sandal have earned a 4.6 out of 5 stars. It’s hard to find any negative reviews of these shoes as well. You should definitely consider buying Teva sandals, even if you aren’t going to go hiking with them. They work as everyday shoes as well.

Pros & Cons

#8 Men’s Forebay Hiking Sandal from Teva

Z

Made from: Textile and rubber

This Forebay Sandal is the male counterpart to the Tirra Sandal for women. Like the Tirra, this sandal is great for hiking as well. You can see more hiking boots here veganproductfinda.com/shoes/hiking-boots. Through Amazon, this sandal is only offered in one color.

These sandals have a built-in shock absorbing pad as well, perfect for your hiking and climbing trips. The mesh that sits on the top of the shoe allows for maximum airflow. The Forebay Sandal is more ‘closed’ than the Tirra Sandal, so this mesh allows for the same amount of airflow to reach your foot.

In addition to the mesh, the sandals have an anti-microbial protection. This means that the shoe is made with a material to fight against any harmful microorganisms that could get inside. This is especially important for when you are hiking and sweating. The sweat in your shoes won’t cause any problems.

#9 Men’s Fanning Sandal with Bottle Opener from Reef

Z

Made from: Faux leather and rubber

Reef is a California based brand that makes a variety of beach styled sandals for men, women, and children. They sell a lot of simple and practical designed shoes, but they also have more unique shoes, like the Fanning Sandal with a built-in bottle opener. There are 17 different color options to pick from as well.

Built-in to the sole of this shoe is a bottle opener. Although there is a bottle opener in the sole, Reef didn’t forget about creating a comfortable shoe as well. The footbed soft and cushioned, and the bottle opener creates an arch above where it’s placed in the shoe.

The sandal is waterproof as well. Take the Fanning Sandal to the beach or for a day out on the water in a boat. You don’t have to worry about them getting wet, and when you get thirsty just take them off and crack open a bottle.

These sandals are meant to truly relax in. With well over 2,000 Amazon reviews, customers agree this comfortable shoe is great for a day off.

The Strappy Sandal is a casual women’s shoe for everyday wear. It is currently being offered in 6 different colors, each solid and simple.

These sandals are meant for casual activity rather than a day of heavy walking. There is little to no arch support, so if you walk in them all day your feet will definitely feel sore. They pair well almost any outfit because of their simple and practical design, but they are still fashionable enough to enhance an outfit.
